Medical City’s 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit is experienced in treating the most life-threatening illnesses in children, with state-of-the art pediatric care delivered by highly skilled, dedicated and compassionate medical professionals. The PICU is staffed 24 hours a day by intensivists, neonatologists and nurses with specialized PICU training. In addition to physicians and nurses, the PICU is staffed by:

Some of the technology we use to treat critically ill children includes:

  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

  • The only hospital in north Texas with a flow anesthesia ventilator
  • High frequency oscillatory ventilation
  • Nitric oxide for respiratory failure
  • Helium-oxygen mixtures for acute asthma patients

Dedicated Transport Team

The Transport Team at Medical City Children’s Hospital cares for patients on their way to the hospital from cities and small communities in Texas and across the country. They provide a full spectrum of care during transport by ambulance, helicopter or airplane. Our Transport Team is the only medical transportation unit in the region exclusively staffed by registered nurses specially trained in the care and stabilization of pediatric and neonatal patients.
